Not at all. While “sports” is in the name, this therapy is beneficial for anyone with an active lifestyle—from marathon runners to weekend hikers or those starting a new gym routine. It is simply a focused, clinical approach to maintaining muscle health.
While deep tissue focuses on general muscle release, a sports massage is more “dynamic” and goal-oriented. It often includes stretching, joint mobilization, and faster-paced strokes specifically designed to address the biomechanics of your specific physical activities.
Sports massage can be intense because it targets deep-seated tension and adhesions. However, our therapists work within your “comfort zone.” You may feel some “good hurt” during the session, but the goal is always therapeutic release, not pain.
Both are beneficial! A “Pre-Event” massage (within 48 hours) is lighter and focuses on stimulating circulation and flexibility. A “Post-Event” massage (within 72 hours) focuses on deep recovery, reducing inflammation, and easing muscle soreness.
Since sports massage often involves assisted stretching and movement, you may choose to wear loose athletic shorts or comfortable clothing. We can also perform the session with traditional draping if you prefer.
