Frequently Asked Questions

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care focuses on the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system to help improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support better overall function.

What can chiropractic care help with?

Chiropractic care may help with:

  • Back and lower back pain
  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Shoulder tension
  • Headaches related to neck tension
  • Sciatica and radiating discomfort
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Muscle tension
  • Limited range of motion
  • Postural concerns
  • Work-related strain
  • Sports-related aches and injuries
  • Repetitive-use discomfort
  • General stiffness and mobility concerns

Your chiropractor will evaluate your condition and determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.

What happens during my first visit?

Your chiropractor will review your health history, discuss your concerns and goals, and perform an evaluation. Based on the findings, your chiropractor will explain the recommended treatment before proceeding.

Does chiropractic treatment always involve an adjustment?

No. Treatment is based on your individual needs and may include chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilization, stretching, soft-tissue techniques, and movement recommendations.

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?

Most adjustments should not be painful. You may feel pressure, movement, or a brief release. Always tell your chiropractor if something feels uncomfortable.

What is the popping or cracking sound during an adjustment?

The sound is generally caused by a change in pressure within the joint. An adjustment does not need to make a popping sound to be effective.

Is joint clicking or popping normal? Can chiropractic care help?

Yes. Joint clicking or popping can be normal, especially when there is no pain, swelling, or loss of movement. It may occur from normal joint movement, changes in joint pressure, or movement of surrounding muscles and tendons. If clicking is frequent, painful, or accompanied by stiffness, swelling, weakness, or limited movement, your chiropractor can evaluate the area to help determine the cause.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor after an appropriate evaluation. Your chiropractor will determine which techniques are appropriate for you.

Do you provide chiropractic care for children?

Yes. We provide chiropractic care for children when appropriate. Treatment is adjusted for the child’s age, size, comfort level, and individual needs. A parent or legal guardian must provide consent for treatment.

Can pregnant clients receive chiropractic care?

Yes, when appropriate. Chiropractic techniques can be modified during pregnancy for comfort and safety. Please let us know you are pregnant and discuss your pregnancy with your chiropractor before treatment.

How many chiropractic visits will I need?

It depends on your condition, goals, and response to care. Your chiropractor will recommend a treatment plan based on your individual needs.

Can I receive chiropractic care if I have an injury or medical condition?

Possibly. Tell your chiropractor about injuries, surgeries, medical conditions, medications, pregnancy, or other health concerns. Your chiropractor will determine whether treatment should be modified or medical clearance or referral is appropriate.

Can chiropractic care be combined with therapeutic massage or acupuncture?

Yes. When appropriate, chiropractic care may complement therapeutic massage and acupuncture as part of an integrated wellness plan.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Your chiropractor may ask you to perform simple movements during your evaluation.

What should I do after chiropractic treatment?

Follow your chiropractor’s recommendations. This may include hydration, gentle movement, stretching, or temporary modifications to certain activities.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

In many cases, a referral is not required. If you are unsure whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you, consult your healthcare provider.

How do I schedule chiropractic care?

Schedule through PalmLeaf’s online booking system or call 847.961.4800.

Do you accept medical insurance?

No. PalmLeaf Massage & Wellness does not accept or bill medical insurance. Payment is due at the time of service. We can provide a receipt for your records or for possible reimbursement when applicable.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Some therapeutic services may qualify for reimbursement through your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), depending on your healthcare plan. PalmLeaf does not accept HSA/FSA cards directly. Please pay using an accepted credit card, then submit your receipt to your HSA/FSA provider for possible reimbursement. Please consult your benefits provider to determine eligibility and reimbursement requirements.
